It is somehow critically incorrect to admit liking Tony Richardson’s bawdy film of the Henry Fielding novel (screenplay by John Osborne), but its blend of English heritage costume drama and Carry On-style romp, with a young Albert Finney looking roguishly adorable in the title role, is as fun as they come. Finney’s famous chicken-munching dinner with Joyce Redman still hits the spot.
