“It’s all right, it’s only Ray Parlour,” was the commentary from TV presenter Tim Lovejoy in Sky’s Fanzone booth. Seconds later, Parlour had opened the scoring. “We had players like Thierry Henry and you expected it from them, but I was a little battler,” Parlour said. “I did score some goals outside the box. Tony Adams pushed it to [Sylvain] Wiltord and it was a great ball to get it forward. After a long season, some of the lads were a bit leggy, but Thierry was running and the blue shirts were always going to go with him. So it opened up for me.” Freddie Ljungberg added the second goal in the Cardiff victory, with Lee Dixon catching the eye with his celebrations behind the goal. Then four days later the Double was sealed at Old Trafford. “That was probably one of the best weeks of my life,” Parlour said. “I scored in the final and then got man-of-thematch to win the league.”
