2017 FA Cup Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

Wembley

-

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring for Arsenal’s last major trophy, although his goal would have been ruled out if Var was in place, like it will be this year. The forward appeared to use his hands in the build-up to create the chance, with Aaron Ramsey in a dangerous position, standing offside, before Sanchez raced on and scored. “The offside rule is crazy,” said Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill. “Nevertheless, forget the offside, it was very lucky to not be given as a handball.” Diego Costa equalised for Chelsea and they looked like they could go on to claim a Double under Antonio Conte, but Ramsey’s late diving header ensured a seventh FA Cup win under Arsene Wenger. The backdrop to the game was Wenger getting criticised by his own fans for not challenging for the title. “The lack of respect from some has been a disgrace and I will never accept that,” he said.
