A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with murdering a man who was kicked to death outside a church.

Steven Mcmyler, 34, was attacked in the grounds of Wigan Parish Church shortly before 7.50pm on Aug 6 and pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is the second person to have been charged with Mr Mcmyler’s murder. Jordan Short, 19, of Rushey Hey Road, Kirkby, has already appeared in court and was remanded in custody.

Detectives are continuing to question a 17-year-old boy from Merseyside on suspicion of murder.

Mr Mcmyler’s family paid tribute to him and said he had “a heart of gold”. In a statement, his family said: “Steven was an extremely likeable lad and everyone who came across him loved him as much as we all did.

“He was a popular lad and he lit the room up as soon as he walked in.

“Everybody thought the world him as he had a heart of gold.

“We can’t believe what has happened and we are struggling to come to terms with this terrible tragedy.”

The juvenile was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Bolton Crown Court on Monday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said. Police have appealed for information.
