Boar that stole nudist’s laptop facing execution in Germany
A trained marksman is to be deployed to shoot a wild boar that stole the laptop of a naked German man.
The boar made international headlines last week after photographs of a portly nudist giving chase were shared on social media.
But in a sad postscript, officials in Berlin said yesterday the boar would have to be killed as it has lost its fear of humans and presents a danger to public safety.
The boar emerged from the forest with two piglets last week and made its way through crowds of people seeking to cool off in Lake Teufelssee.
“You have to put yourself in the boar’s position,” Katja Kammer, of the Grunewald forestry department, told RBB television. “The sun is hot on its black fur. So it heads for water.”
She also suggested the animal may have been enticed to the bathing spot by the large volume of rubbish left behind by visitors.
A licensed hunter will be commissioned to track and shoot the boar. However, there is still hope of a reprieve. Officials said it was too dangerous to hunt the boar in summer while the forest is crowded and any action would probably be delayed until winter.
In addition, the boar still has young, and it is illegal to kill female boars if they have piglets younger than six months.
