Police pick up a penguin on routine village patrol
Police on a routine patrol in a quiet Nottinghamshire village picked up a lost penguin as it waddled away from its farm enclosure.
Officers in Broxtowe spotted the Humboldt penguin, native to South America, on a village street in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The bird had escaped from a farm enclosure in nearby Strelley and then managed to walk a mile up the road.
Pc Gareth Philp said they nicknamed the penguin Po-po after “he posed for some pictures with us and he was very friendly with our officers”. The bird was later reunited with its owner.
