Cleaner at five-star Mayfair hotel denies jewel thefts

-

A CLEANER at a five-star hotel in Mayfair stole jewellery, watches and £15,000 cash, a court heard.

Graziela Camacho, 29, allegedly stole the items from guests at the Connaught Hotel between December 2018 and March 2019.

She is charged with five counts of stealing items including diamond earrings, a diamond ring and diamond bracelet, and one of stealing cash. Ms Camacho faces a further charge of possession of criminal property in relation to “jewellery, money and designer bags” found at her address in April 2019.

At Southwark Crown Court yesterday, she spoke only to deny all charges. Judge Sally Cahill told her: “I am going to adjourn this case, and there will be a case management hearing on Nov 13. You need to attend on that date.”

Ms Camacho, of Ilford, east London, was bailed.

The Connaught, opened in 1815 as the Prince of Saxe Coburg Hotel, had a £70 million restoration in 2007. It was a favourite of actor Sir Alec Guinness.
