Rebel leader shot dead by troops in Indonesia
Indonesian troops fatally shot a separatist leader near the world’s largest gold mine in the easternmost Papua region, police and rebels said.
Hengky Wanmang, a leader of the Free Papua Organisation, was shot as he tried to escape on Sunday from a morning raid by military and police on a house believed to be a separatist headquarters in the mountain village of Kalikopi, according to Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, a Papua police spokesman.
