The way to stop dangerous Channel crossings
sir – Having crossed the Channel in a sailing yacht, I think that the majority of migrants using this route to Britain must be ignorant of the dangers – but absolutely determined to come here.
It seems Britain is regarded as the most humanitarian destination. Sending migrants back to France will only result in another attempt, perhaps with fatal consequences.
Cracking down on the smugglers who take the money and provide the boats and flotation devices (they are not life-jackets) is the place to start.
