- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A PORSCHE owner who was parked illegally prevented a tow truck from removing his car by staging a five-hour blockade in the road with help from his wife.

Peter Fennell complained it was “unfair” and “un-english” when council workers began loading his vintage sports car on to a recovery vehicle in Highgate, north London.

The 54- year- old, who received a ticket for parking on double yellow l i nes, argued with the officers before he sat on a stool in the middle of the road to protest.

He even started to work on his laptop while his wife Anne, 44, stood behind the tow truck so it could not reverse and leave with the Porsche 944.

After a five-hour stand-off on Tuesday peace was brokered when the officers’ superiors relented and agreed the car could be left with Mr Fennell. He said: “We got a parking ticket and that was fair enough. I had half the car on double yellows and forgot to move it in the morning.

A Haringey Council spokesman said: “We are processing the details of the penalty charge notice to take the appropriate action.”
