Women with broken bottles in street fight

POLICE are investigat­ing a brawl in a Surrey stockbroke­r-belt town in which a group of women armed with broken bottles began attacking one another in the middle of the afternoon.

The fight i s thought to have begun in a bar in Camberley before spilling out into the street, sending shoppers running for cover.

Armed police were among those to respond.

A number of women received slash wounds and laceration­s and were taken to hospital for the removal of shards of broken glass.

Two women were arrested at the scene on Saturday afternoon, close to the town’s Atrium shopping centre. A spokesman for Surrey police said: “The fight had spilled out of a bar.

“Emergency services, including ambulance, police and firearms officers, responded and found a number of women with laceration injuries that are believed to have been caused by broken bottles.

“A number of victims received treatment at the scene and one woman was taken to hospital with more serious injuries. Two women have been arrested on suspicion of assault.”

Det Insp Jo Smith added: “This would have been a frightenin­g incident for anyone to witness and we are keen to understand what caused these groups to clash and inflict these horrible injuries.”
