Alien invaders
sir – I applaud the Editorial (September 2) demanding action against invasive foreign animal and bird species.
The parakeet is highlighted, along with its ability to strip an orchard or – I would add – our bird feeder, which has been put out for native species. These green invaders are also raucous, self-preening braggarts that detrimentally affect the native bird equilibrium.
My position is unaltered by the fact that my nickname throughout all my schooling was Polly, so I am rather fond of the general species.
