Half of Bri­tons feel less safe than five years ago

A third of peo­ple around the world feel less safe than they did five years ago − but in the UK the fig­ure rises to

53 per cent, ac­cord­ing to a study.

Cli­mate change fig­ured highly on the list of con­cerns for Bri­tish peo­ple with 70 per cent say­ing they con­sid­ered it to be a very se­ri­ous threat in the next 20 years, com­pared to 41 per cent of the global re­sponses.

Prof Richard Clegg, chief ex­ec­u­tive of the Lloyd’s Regis­ter Foun­da­tion, which car­ried out the pre-pan­demic poll of 150,000 peo­ple across 142 coun­tries, said: “We can use this data to work with com­mu­ni­ties and em­power peo­ple to take ac­tion most likely to re­duce harm.”
