Burglar smashes wall in £100,000 jewels raid
A burglar smashed through a pub wall with power tools to enter a jeweller’s next door, and steal items worth more than £100,000.
The raider entered the temporarily closed Plug and Taps bar in Preston, then broke into George Banks Jewellers yesterday. Police said the thief entered the city-centre shop at about 4.30am, and fled about five minutes later.
Det Con Mark Thornton, of Preston CID, said: “It is believed that a man has broken in after smashing through the wall using power tools. The offender has then broken into a number of display units, stealing a substantial amount of jewellery.”
