It wasn’t London, but marathon raises £16.1m

-

London Marathon runners raised £16.1 million for more than 2,000 charities after thousands took part in the 26.2-mile race in their own way.

Around 45,000 people from across the UK and 109 other countries signed up to run in the marathon virtually, after the race, originally planned for April 26, changed format because of Covid-19. While more than 100 elite runners ran in St James’s Park, in London on Sunday, thousands of participants pounded their local streets, battling rain and gale-force winds to raise the money.

The public ballot to run in next year’s marathon on Oct 3 is open until 5pm this Friday.
