Fire brigade summoned to rescue toy cat
An animal behaviour expert brought in the fire brigade to rescue a cat from a bin – only to find a toy with a “convincing” miaow.
Dr Alan Mcelligott, an associate professor at the University of Roehampton in London, heard the noise coming from a clothes recycling bin, and called the emergency services. Police then called the fire brigade who retrieved the toy from the enclosed bin.
Dr Mcelligott posted photos of Saturday’s operation on line, along with a link to the £73 Furreal Friends. He wrote: “The ‘cat’ turned out to be a toy one, with very convincing miaow.”
Yesterday, he added: “The police and firefighters started laughing. I went red-faced, and apologised.”
