Prince’s letters charting birth, death and adultery to be sold

-

♦ Touching private letters from the Royal family to a trusted servant discovered after her death are to be sold at auction, including a note from the Prince of Wales reminding her to use the “loo” before his long wedding ceremony.

The collection belonged to Marjorie Dawson, a personal dresser and maid to Princess Alexandra, the Queen’s cousin, for 36 years. They include letters from the Prince, expressing joy at the birth of Prince William, sorrow at the death of his grandmother the Queen Mother, and delight at marrying Camilla Parker Bowles, now the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Prince wrote, after he took part in a 1994 documentary with Jonathan Dimbleby and admitted adultery: “I suspect it was what is called ‘living dangerously’, but it seems difficult to avoid nowadays!”

The items, being sold online by Hansons Auctioneers on Oct 13, are expected to fetch more than £10,000.
