Syrian sarin victims seek justice in German courts

-

Victims of chemical weapons attacks during the Syrian civil war have started legal action in Germany against government officials they blame for the deaths of hundreds of civilians.

Germany’s “universal jurisdiction” laws allow it to prosecute people for crimes against humanity committed anywhere in the world. This offers a rare legal avenue against the Syrian government. Lawyers representing the victims say they have new evidence the regime carried out the attacks.
