February 2016 Oxford University Labour Club co-chair resigns after claiming that its members have “some kind of problem with Jews” and sympathise with terrorist groups like Hamas.
March 2016 Two former shadow Cabinet ministers, Michael Dugher MP and Rachel Reeves MP, accuse Jeremy Corbyn of trying to “bury” the party’s anti-semitism after refusing to publish an investigation into harassment of Jewish students at Oxford University.
April 2016 Bradford West MP Naz Shah was suspended from the Labour Party after remarks she previously made on social media about relocating Israel to America. MPS criticise Mr Corbyn for initially declining to suspend her from the party whip.
April 2016 Former London Mayor Ken Livingstone becomes embroiled in the row and is subsequently suspended. In a BBC interview he defends Ms Shah, saying, “I’ve never heard anybody say anything anti-semitic.”
May 2016 Britain’s Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, enters the row for the first time to call on Mr Corbyn to take “decisive action”, saying Labour has a “severe” problem with antiSemitism.
June 2016 Shami Chakrabarti releases her report on anti-semitism that is subsequently described as a “whitewash”. Two months later she receives a peerage by Mr Corbyn.
October 2016 Home Affairs Select Committee report accuses Mr Corbyn and his team of “demonstrable incompetence” in handling antiSemitism.
September 2016 Momentum vice-chairman Jackie Walker is suspended from the party after footage showed her saying she had not found a definition of anti-semitism she could work with. She is expelled in March 2019.
March 2018 Mr Corbyn comes under pressure to explain his comments defending an anti-semitic mural (above right).
July 2018 Dame Margaret Hodge calls Mr Corbyn “a racist and an antiSemite”.
July 2018 Labour’s ruling NEC body rejects the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of anti-semitism.
August 2018 Reports emerge of Mr Corbyn laying a wreath at the graves of Munich terrorists.
September 2018 Labour’s NEC adopts IHRA definition in full.
November 2018 The Jewish Labour Movement refers the Labour Party to the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
February 2019 Luciana Berger (above, with Jeremy Corbyn), Liverpool Wavertree MP, quits Labour over the anti-semitic abuse she has been subjected to.
April 2019 The Jewish Labour Movement passes a vote of no confidence in its leader.
May 2019 The EHRC launches its formal investigation.
July 2020 Labour apologises and pays damages to the Panorama whistleblowers featured in John Ware’s 2019 documentary.
October 2020 The EHRC releases its report into Labour anti-Semitism and Sir Keir Starmer suspends Mr Corbyn.
