A suit that’s still in style after half a century
sir – The Prince of Wales (report, November 5) still wears a jacket that he acquired in 1969.
Last week my grandson needed a suit to wear to his other grandfather’s funeral. I have a suit that I had made by Huntsman in 1965, which is in excellent condition. I have not worn it for 45 years and, while the suit fitted when it was made, the match between it and my form is no longer perfect.
Fortunately it is a good fit for my 17-year-old grandson. It is singlebreasted with one button, and it remains as classically stylish as when it was made.

sir – Vanessa Long’s letter (November 7) put me in mind of my own duffel coat – a sign of identity that most university students wore in the Fifties and early Sixties.
Mine still has beer stains on it, which are delightful reminders of a very interesting evening. Professor M M R Williams Eastbourne, East Sussex
sir – My husband bought me a black jersey dress and jacket for my 18th birthday in 1962. I have just passed it on to my 16-year-old granddaughter. Daphne Pickup

sir – In the Sixties, with my commissioning uniform allowance of £30, I bought a British Warm overcoat (£29) made by Crombie. It still comes out on frosty winter days.
In 1963 I bought a knee-length sheepskin coat, which, with global warming, is virtually redundant.
Ten years ago, you published my letter about the post-falklands army socks that I was wearing in winter. I wear them still.
