Now even Dumbo has fallen foul of Disney’s woke police
The War of Woke never sleeps. Peter Pan, the tale of a boy who never grew up, has been put on a list of banned movies.
Disney has blocked anyone under the age of seven from watching the 1953 animated classic on its streaming service over concerns that it contains racist stereotypes.
Apparently, it’s because of the word “redskins” which, as we know, is a whole lot more traumatising for junior viewers than watching children walk the plank so they can be eaten alive by a crocodile.
Dumbo, Swiss Family Robinson, Aladdin, The Aristocats and my own lifelong favourite, the sublime Lady and the Tramp, have also been removed from children’s accounts for breaching new “content advisories”.
What’s wrong with Dumbo? Is it earist? The Aristocats is damned for its Siamese cats which “some viewers have seen as a stereotypical portrayal of East Asian people”. Yes, really.
What is especially bonkers is that these are adult preoccupations projected onto tiny humans, generations of whom have adored all those Disney cartoons without any apparent harm.
As for Snow White and her seven differently abled persons of limited stature… let’s not even go there.
