Epstein’s mansion sells for $38m under asking price

THE New York mansion where Jeffrey Epstein is alleged to have abused young women and girls is to be sold for $50 million (£35 million).

The late financier’s Upper East Side townhouse in Manhattan, which was once visited by Prince Andrew, is set to sell for $38million less than the $88million asking price. The seven-storey property is one of the largest private residences in New York. The potential buyer’s name has not been made public.

“I don’t know who would want it,” one estate agent told the New York Post. “I had clients hang up on me, angry that I even suggested it.”

The Duke of York, who had been a friend of Epstein, was photographed at the townhouse in 2010. He has always strongly denied any allegations of wrongdoing. The property came under offer after being on the market for seven months, which estate agents said was a reasonably quick turnaround for a property with such a high-price tag, and especially given the property’s connection to the convicted paedophile.

However, some property experts said that the drop in price could have been more down to the pandemic rather than its recent history.

The 40-bedroom gothic-style home overlooking Central Park was bought by Epstein in 1998 for $20million.

The proceeds of his estate are being used to settle lawsuits brought by the financier’s alleged victims.

Police who raided the townhouse shortly after Epstein’s arrest in 2019 found hundreds of images and videos of underage girls naked.
