Johnson cuts India trip to single day of meetings

-

Boris Johnson’s first post-brexit overseas trip is to be cut to just one day amid soaring Covid rates in India.

The Prime Minister had been due to spend four days in India at the end of the month but, following talks with Narendra Modi’s administration, the “bulk” of the meetings are expected to be shoe-horned into a single day on April 26. Covid-19 rates are surging in India with more than 180,000 new infections detected since Tuesday.

The trip, which had already been pushed back from January due to the UK’S own battle with infections, is part of Britain’s foreign policy “tilt” towards the Indo-pacific, as announced in the Integrated Review last month.
