How the royals dress for Norfolk country life
Royal fans had hoped that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge might release an unseen image from their wedding day to mark the 10th anniversary of their marriage. Instead, the couple chose to share the most in-depth definition yet of Norfolk chic, the glossy rural look which they’ve crafted as their family image over the past decade – a marriage of Ralph Lauren glossiness meets Barbour-style practicality.
Many of the items worn in the film are wholesome and tricky to identify – all those snug knits and hardy all-weather coats which one can imagine hanging in the boot room of Anmer Hall.
The Duchess’s jumper is given a pretty, Diana-ish update thanks to a prim pie-crust collar blouse by French label Sezane. Her Hicks & Brown fedora – similar to the vintage one she wore on the cover of Vogue in 2016 – is an authentically rural-posh finishing touch. We also see her don a trusty pair of Berghaus walking boots and one of her many shooting jackets – Dubarry’s £299 Friel design.
Princess Charlotte follows in her mother’s footsteps, wearing a pair of £259 Penelope Chilvers boots – a mini version of the style the Duchess has worn since 2004. The Cambridges’ only daughter also wears a homespun sampler intarsia knit from Ralph Lauren – the most “statement” piece of the whole mise en scene.
Prince Louis competes with his sister in the boot department, wearing £50 mini Hunter wellingtons. Prince George, meanwhile, represents a thriftier approach in a £12 Regatta fleece.
