Lara Trump tells Americans on border to ‘get guns ready’

LARA TRUMP, Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, has urged Americans living on the US southern border to “arm up and get guns and be ready”, in response to the influx of migrants crossing from Central America.

Mrs Trump, who is tipped for a Senate run in North Carolina next year, made her incendiary remarks on Fox News on Saturday night.

She did so as the latest figures revealed that more than 180,000 attempts were made to cross the Mexican border last month, the highest figure in two decades.

“I don’t know what you tell the people that live at the southern border. I guess they better arm up and get guns and be ready, and maybe they’re gonna have to take matters into their own hands,” she said.

“People should never make this dangerous journey here. It’s bad for Americans. It’s bad for the migrants. It’s bad all around.”

Her remarks were condemned by political opponents including Russell Foster, a Democrat who is running for Congress in Texas.

“This is dangerous,” he said. “The former president’s daughter-in-law is calling for people to shoot immigrants. It’s worse after multiple mass shootings over the last few days in Texas and elsewhere. This could lead to an uptick in hate crimes across the country.”

Immigration has emerged as the political Achilles heel for the Biden administration, with polling showing that the majority of voters disapprove of the president’s handling of the issue.
