Beauty spot litter heaps pressure on council staff
Council workers are under considerable pressure because of the amount of rubbish discarded at beauty spots, a trade union has warned.
Unison called for financial support to ensure that local authorities can maintain services and keep communities free of litter.
Public spaces are at risk of being swamped with waste as people dump food packaging, cans, bags, nappies, and even swimming towels and body boards, the union said.
Christina Mcanea, Unison’s general secretary, said: “Stretched resources are adding to the pressure on council staff who’ve gone above and beyond for the past year.”
