I was just a ‘dumb kid’ when I fled, Begum says

Shamima Begum, the east London schoolgirl who fled to Syria to join Islamic State in 2015, has pleaded to be allowed to return to the UK, saying she was just a “dumb kid” when she left.

In an interview for a new film called Danger Zone, the 21-year-old, who is still living in the al-roj prison camp in Syria, said: “I don’t think I was a terrorist. I think I was just a dumb kid who made one mistake.”
