Race of the day

The Prince of Wales’s Stakes (4.20) is not just the race of the day, but surely the race of the week, with the mouthwatering prospect of impressive Dubai Turf winner Lord North clashing with last year’s imperious 1,000 Guineas and

Oaks heroine Love. Throw in two further top-level winners (including Breeders’ Cup winner Audarya) and Group 1 winner-in-waiting Armory (above) and we have a fantastic renewal on our hands.

Bet of the day Having looked ill at ease not only on Epsom’s camber but on soft ground, Irish Admiral (5.00) can appreciate a return to better ground and a more conventional track. He caught the eye when making a race-winning move in a 1m2½f handicap at York before proving weak in the late stages. If there is enough pace on his side (he is drawn in stall 6), he can take the beating in the Royal Hunt Cup.
