Race of the day

The Hardwicke Stakes (3.40) looks an intriguing renewal, with last year’s dual Group 1-winning heroine Wonderful Tonight slated to make her seasonal reappearance. Aidan O’brien looks sure to play a strong hand, with Broome, Japan, Mogul and Tiger Moth all possible runners at this stage. Logician, the 2019 St Leger winner, Ilaraab (left), seeking a seventh straight win, and impressive last-start winner Hukum are others in the mix in a potentially strong race.

Bet of the day

Who else but Dettori as he bids to round off the week on a winning note via the Dermot Weld-trained Falcon Eight (6.10), who may well prove a penalty-kick at the weights as he bids to follow up his victory in the Chester Cup last month.

Falcon Eight has that ability to switch off and then quicken when asked and, with stamina his forte, he has an awful lot going for him in this race.
