Jolt (2021) AMAZON PRIME VIDEO ★
Tanya Wexler (of 2011’s Hysteria) directs this baffling black comedy cum action thriller, which stars Kate Beckinsale. She plays a diminutive but hard-as-nails bouncer who goes on a revenge rampage after the murder of a friend, while also undergoing electric shock therapy for an anger problem. Laverne Cox, Stanley Tucci, Bobby Cannavale and Susan Sarandon make up the starry supporting cast.
Whisky Galore! (1949, b/w) BBC TWO, 3.50PM ★★★★
Compton Mackenzie helped to adapt his own novel, inspired by a real incident in which a ship bearing 50,000 cases of whisky ran aground off the Hebrides. Booze-starved islanders unite against English bureaucracy to scavenge the scotch from Customs in this gently subversive Ealing comedy, the directing debut of Alexander Mackendrick. Basil Radford and Joan Greenwood star.
The Lost Boys (1987) BBC ONE, 10.35PM ★★★★
Joel Schumacher’s cult horror, referencing the Lost Boys from JM Barrie’s Peter Pan, starred Coreys Haim and Feldman at the height of their popularity, as well as a careerblossoming Kiefer Sutherland. People are Strange sang the soundtrack, and that’s exactly what a family find when they move to a town overrun by a bunch of Jim Morrison-worshipping bloodsuckers and vampire hunters.
