Duchess of York wants A-list star to play her

SARAH FERGUSON, the Duchess of York, has revealed she wants Julianne Moore to play her in The Crown.

The Duchess, 61, said she knows The Crown’s producer Andy Harries and plans to ask him to hire the Hollywood star for the role.

Speaking on the Front Row podcast, the Duchess explained she hopes to drop her suggestion into conversation with him while discussing a screenplay of her new book, Her Heart for a Compass. The book is based loosely on the life of the Duchess’s ancestor, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott.

She said: “I have known Andy Harries and [I spoke to] a great friend of mine who worked with Andy a long time ago.

“I said to her, ‘Oh I’d love to get Andy to look at Lady Margaret and then while I’m asking him about it maybe I could say Julianne Moore should play me.’”

The Duchess’s character has already appeared fleetingly in the Netflix show. In the most recent series, she is played by Guildford School of Acting alumna

Jessica Aquilina as the woman the world would come to know as “Fergie”.

Aquilina’s minor role came in two episodes: 48:1 and War. It is not clear if the Duchess will play a more prominent part in series five, which is expected to arrive on Netflix next year.

But the change in cast would open the door to the Duchess’s dream cast to come to fruition.

When asked about how little she appeared in the previous series of the show, the Duchess said: “At least I was in it for a minute.”
