Rwandan troops ‘retake key Mozambique port’

-

Rwandan forces deployed last month to help Mozambique’s army battle jihadists said yesterday they had recaptured a key northern port.

Mocimboa da Praia, from where the first Islamist attacks were staged in Oct 2017, became the de facto headquarters of the Islamic State-linked extremists last year.

Rwanda sent 1,000 troops to help regain control of Cabo Delgado province, home to one of Africa’s biggest liquefied natural gas projects.
