Who hasn’t got their own dirty little eco secret?

As XR’S co-founder is castigated for driving a diesel, our writers confess their green ‘sins’

-

Cards on the table – yes, even that giant pink table Extinction Rebellion protestors have hauled out to block the traffic in London’s West End – we all have our dirty eco secrets. One of XR’S founders admitted this week that she still drives a diesel car (to ferry her children to rugby and football fixtures, was the excuse), having previously been criticised for jetting off to Costa Rica in 2016. “I’ve done lots of good things,” Dr Gail Bradbrook, 49, humble-bragged, “but I also don’t get it all right.”

No doubt eco-warrior Prince Harry similarly excused himself this week when taking a private jet back to California after a polo match in Aspen, Colorado. And then there are the senior members of Britain’s Cop26 delegation: spokeswoman Allegra Stratton (who advised the nation not to rinse their plates before they go in the dishwasher) and president Alok Sharma have both confessed to owning polluting diesels, too.

When the global climate conference convenes in Glasgow in November, they may wish to park around the corner…
