Daley made honorary freeman of Plymouth
Olympic gold-winning diver Tom Daley has been made an honorary freeman of his home city of Plymouth, Devon – the youngest person ever to receive the award.
Councillors voted to confer the title on him to recognise his achievements in diving.
Daley and diving partner Matty Lee won Britain’s first Olympic gold medal in the men’s synchronised 10 metre dive at the Tokyo Games. Daley also won bronze in the sole 10m event.
Daley said he was “delighted” to accept the award. He added that “to be one of such a select few Plymothians is such an honour”.
