Wild Rose (2019)

♦ Tom Harper’s drama about an alcoholic country-music singer trying to follow her passion from Glasgow to Nashville is a crowd-pleaser. But it also has enough emotional insight to feel true-to-life. Jessie Buckley blazes as Rose-lynn, while Julie Walters is excellent as her put-upon mother, as is Sophie Okonedo as her posh employer. The musical numbers are delivered with foot-stomping aplomb.
