Dolphin that became online star killed by boat

Nick the dolphin which garnered online fame when it was filmed swimming with the public has died after being hit by a boat.

The mammal was first identified in waters off the Isles of Scilly last year.

Last month, videos of Nick playing with swimmers and paddleboarders in Hayle Harbour, west Cornwall, went viral in August, but animals groups voiced concern for its safety.

Earlier this week, Nick was found dead on the shore near Cork Harbour in Ireland. It was identified by his distinctive markings and scars.

The injuries were consistent with being struck by a boat, according to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
