Transport police rush to sort out fast food ‘threat’

Rail services were cancelled yesterday when police stormed a station to investigate a suspicious package that turned out to be a box of discarded fast food.

A security alert was triggered at Newbury station, Berks, whilst investigations were carried out.

But British Transport Police (BTP) later confirmed that the package, which had been placed on a bench, contained only fried chicken.

A BTP spokesman said: “Officers were called to Newbury station at 6.37am following a report of a suspicious item. Officers quickly attended and clarified this was a box of fried chicken.”
