Father of Barrymore pool victim ‘died sad’
THE father of Stuart Lubbock, who was found dead in Michael Barrymore’s pool in 2001, has died without seeing justice for his son.
Terry Lubbock, who campaigned for two decades to find out the truth behind his son’s death, died aged 76, it was confirmed yesterday. The retired toolmaker, whose 31-year-old son died at the entertainer’s then home in Roydon, Essex, announced earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Harry Cichy, friend and publicist of Mr Lubbock, paid tribute to the “mildmannered man with the heart of a lion” who had lived in Harlow. He added: “He’s died sad, because he’s died knowing people never knew the truth about what happened.”
A post-mortem examination showed that Mr Lubbock’s son had suffered severe internal injuries which suggested he had been sexually assaulted.
Alcohol, ecstasy and cocaine were found in his bloodstream but a coroner recorded an open verdict. No one has ever been charged over his death.
