Ban on romantic relationships for lifers in Denmark

PRISONERS serving life sentences in Denmark will be banned from starting romantic relationships to counter an alarming rise in “groupie” culture.

The announcement was made yesterday after a young woman disclosed she had fallen in love with “Submarine Killer” Peter Madsen.

“Lifers should not be able to use our prisons as dating centres,” Nick Haekkerup, the justice minister, said.

Recently Cammilla Kürstein admitted she exchanged letters and phone calls with Madsen, 50, over the course of two years, starting when she was 17.

She said she was “very sad inside” when he married Jenny Curpen, a 39-year-old Russian woman, while he was behind bars in 2020.
