More writers of colour on exam board book list

-

More than a quarter of books available to study on GCSE and A-level English literature courses from a top exam board will now be by writers of colour.

OCR, one of the UK’S main exam boards, announced it was doubling the choice by black, Asian or minority ethnic authors for the courses from next September.

Previously, only 13 per cent of books on OCR’S GCSES and A-level were by writers of colour, but this will now rise to 28 per cent, it was reported.

It follows calls for schools to “decolonise” the curriculum amid accusations students were being taught about too many “dead white men”.
