Forgotten laptop password? Just use your face to log in

-

‹Microsoft has signalled the death of the password as it is now allowing users to log in with fingerprints and facial recognition.

The company has said customers can delete their passwords and log in to their laptops or computers with its “authenticator” smartphone app.

Microsoft said the move is part of its plans to head towards a “passwordless future”, and warned that traditional passwords don’t provide good security because people tend to use easy ones they can remember that are easy for hackers to crack.

People with Windows computers and devices can now download the Microsoft Authenticator app on their smartphone. Once set up, the app will prompt users when they try to access their device with a notification that lets them open it via a fingerprint or face scan or a pin code. If users lose their phone they can still log in on other Microsoft devices with facial recognition or a code sent via email.
