Student satisfaction

-

SIR – Your report (“University ‘greed’ compels students to sit on the floor”, September 11) does not reflect the experience of the majority of students at Russell Group universities.

They are routinely ranked among the best for teaching quality globally, with some of the best student-staff ratios and dropout rates at less than half the UK average. Russell Group graduates are more likely than those from other UK universities to occupy high-skilled jobs that are vital to the economy, and to earn a higher wage.

Our universities have increased investment in support services and pastoral care to respond to the pressures of the pandemic. They have ensured that students were not unfairly affected by changes to the assessment system in 2020 and 2021. We are pleased that the National Student Survey has shown the majority of students were satisfied with the quality of their course this year.

Our focus remains on providing students with the support they need to enjoy the university experience and benefit from the skills and knowledge a world-class higher education offers. Dr Tim Bradshaw

Chief Executive, Russell Group London SW1
