sir – I am pleased that the United Kingdom is a partner in Aukus. It is exactly why I voted for Brexit.
Let us remember what a sacrifice people from Australia and the United States made to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. Better that Britain since Brexit should be in partnership to help protect those countries than cosying up to Russia on Nord Stream 2 or always seeking to appease China.
I might have had a bit of sympathy for France had it not been warned that its contract was in difficulty and if President Emmanuel Macron had not gone out of his way to be hostile to Britain at every opportunity.
I am rather ashamed to say that the fact he is so upset makes the whole thing more enjoyable, and with every French rant my smile gets broader. People reap what they sow. Frederick Hill

France may have its own nuclear deterrent, but since humiliation at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 it has found no place on the world stage. Perhaps its warheads will now be retargeted on Canberra, Washington and London.
France is best viewed as a friend not an ally.

France supplied Exocet missiles to the Argentines before the Falklands war and French technicians helped Argentina use them to sink our ships.
Unfortunately, we did not kick out the French ambassador.
