Runaway iguana found sunbathing on pub roof
Firefighters may be used to rescuing the occasional cat from a tree, but crews in Kent experienced a first by coming to the aid of an iguana.
Nicknamed “Runaway Ronnie”, the lizard was discovered sunbathing on the roof of a pub in Folkestone after giving its owner the slip. It had climbed of a nearby window and scaled the pub’s walls.
Firefighters were called and used an aerial ladder to retrieve the pet reptile, assisted by RSPCA staff.
David Grant, an RSPCA inspector, said: “It’s the first time I’ve ever been called out to rescue an iguana. He’d climbed right to the top and was sunbathing on the roof ridge.”
