No block put on inquiry into sinking of trawler
The naval police would have had “no hesitation” in investigating military involvement in the sinking of a French fishing vessel, an inquest heard.
All five crewmen lost their lives when the Bugaled Breizh went down very suddenly in calm conditions off the Lizard Peninsula on Jan 15, 2004.
The question of whether a submarine may have become entangled in the trawler gear and caused it to capsize has been raised.
An inquest at London’s High Court heard yesterday that the Royal Navy Police Special Investigation Branch would not have been blocked.
The inquest is scheduled to run until Oct 22.
