Basin to bowl

sir – You report (October 11) that environmental campaigners are advocating rainwater lavatories.

These are a great idea, but a far more economical system would be for basins to decant used “grey water” directly into an adjacent lavatory cistern.

The sink would, of course, have to be higher so the transfer could take place without a pump.
