STEPHEN TIMMS, MAY 14 2010
Stephen Timms, 66, the Labour MP for East Ham, was stabbed twice during his constituency surgery.
The attack was carried out by Roshonara Choudhry, 21, right, who was disarmed by the MP’S assistant. The King’s College London student selected Mr Timms from a list of MPS who had voted in favour of invading Iraq. She later told police: “I was not going to stop until someone made me. I wanted to kill him … I was going to get revenge for the people of Iraq.” She had made an appointment to see Mr Timms at 2.45pm on the day of the attack specifying that she must see the MP, rather than an assistant.
She was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder.
