HGV driver conditions

SIR – I agree that lorry drivers should have decent places in which to stop (report, October 15). They should have good washroom facilities, and places to eat and relax. However, I fail to see that it is a government responsibility to supply these. Does the Government supply motorway services?

We are in an era where the Government is expected to take responsibility for all the minutiae of life, but tax rises should not be considered as an option to pay for it all. Judith Rixon
