MIGRANT BOATS GRIM TIMELINE OF CROSSINGS

102 people brought across after being encountere­d in the English Channel, the highest number ever at that point since more than 80 people arrived in one day in mid-2019. Five boats contained people said to be from Iran, Iraq, Afghanista­n, Pakistan and Syria.

June 3

167 arrived in the UK via the channel in one day on eight boats, at that time a new record number for one 24-hour period. On this day, the largest boat so far seen contained 64 people (48 men and 16 women), which came in to land at Samphire Hoe beach near Dover.

Oct 27

Four bodies of an Iranian Kurdish family were found when their boat sank. Rasul Iran Nezhad and his wife, Shiva Mohammad Panahi, both 35, and two of their children, Anita, nine, and Armin, six, drowned as they attempted to reach Britain by boat.

May 28 2021

336 people reach the UK in 19 boats. Another new record.

July 12

346 people illegally entered the UK after crossing the Channel in 15 boats.

Aug 20

The body of a 16-year-old Sudanese national was found after he tried to cross the English Channel. The teenager is thought to have drowned within minutes of entering the water because he could not swim.

Aug 21

828 illegal immigrants crossed the Channel in 30 boats.

Sept 11

The body of an unknown migrant was pulled from the Channel by a passing vessel. The death followed that of a 27-year-old Eritrean man one month earlier, who drowned in a raft that sank off the coast of Dunkirk.

Nov 3

853 illegal immigrants come to the UK on 25 boats. One man was declared dead and another missing after they both drowned when their dinghy capsized off Dunkirk.

Nov 11

1,185 people entered the UK in 33 boats, a new record.

Nov 24

At least 27 migrants drown in the English Channel as they tried to reach the UK on a boat.
