Christmas cringe

-

SIR – I have just received the first email of the year informing me that someone would not be sending Christmas cards but instead donating to charity.

Am I the only person who feels that this misses the point of Christmas, which is to bring light, cheer and happiness to the recipients of cards – who may be glad to be remembered and feel less alone – rather than to save yourself the effort of buying, writing and sending cards, while proclaiming your apparent goodness.

SIR – On the subject of cringeworthy Christmas offerings, may I offer the festive card I had the misfortune to discover recently: “Merry Crimbo to Mum and her Bloke.”
